Welcome from the President of GBIHPBA

Dear colleagues and friends,

The 4th GBIHPBA biennial meeting is almost upon us and we thought we would outline the thinking behind this years’ event. Building on the success of the previous meetings, helped by the excellent venue in Leamington Spa we have heeded the feedback and comments from previous events and retained the overall format while addressing emerging issues.

HPB surgery has changed dramatically over the last twenty years and new technologies and drugs have heralded a new era where we are moving steadily towards tailored medicine. This is a great opportunity to share knowledge and experience and recognise these changes with the increasing demands they place on trainees and trainers. It is also important to understand the issues that the increasing complexity of modern medicine and the consequent burgeoning choices poses for patients and include them at every stage as we go forwards. We have reflected these issues in this years’ programme and in addition to the outstanding keynote lectures there are sessions devoted to;

  • The training of an HPB surgeon
  • Providing information for patients, relatives, carers and the public
  • Complications and controversies
  • HPB transplantation update
  • What can we learn from international HPB surgery and surgical training
  • New technologies and developments
  • An “International Debate” with speakers from China, Australia and the UK
  • Liver and pancreas position statements

The excellent venue provides ample opportunity for socialising, meeting old colleagues and making new friends and the GBIHPBA committee and local organising committee will do everything possible to ensure this is another successful meeting. We look forward to seeing you at Chesford Grange and you can register online now.
