New Patient Charter from Pancreatic Cancer UK

Pancreatic Cancer UK’s Patient Charter sets out the standard of care all pancreatic cancer patients should receive. It has been designed to inform patients and their carers about the level of care they are entitled to, in order to empower them to demand better care.

It is the first step in Pancreatic Cancer UK’s Gold Standards campaign, which seeks to work with healthcare professionals across the UK to drive up standards of pancreatic cancer care.

The GBIHPA is pleased to have endorsed the Charter alongside the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the Association of Upper Gastroenterologists and the British Society of Gastroenterologists.

Gateshead update

The AUGIS Gateshead meeting was a great success and, without doubt, the highlight was the amazing demonstration of laparoscopic skills in HPB surgery by Michael Kendrick of the Mayo Clinic. Euan Dickson of Glasgow stepped in at the last minute and gave an excellent talk on “Extreme Pancreatitis” which was extremely well received. We also had excellent sessions on hepatobiliary sepsis, emergency management and a state-of-the-art HPB session. If members have any suggestions for the HPB sessions at the Brighton meeting in September 2014, please contact Giles Toogood.
